1. Is 12.5mm the Smallest Stud Link Anchor Chain Size?
Yes. Stud link anchor chains typically start from 12.5mm. Smaller diameters are only available in studless chain, as the link needs enough space for the stud to be welded inside.
2. Where is It Mainly Used?
Small fishing vessels, yachts (10-20 meters), and inland waterway vessels. Larger commercial ships generally use 16mm and above.
3. What Grades are Available? Which is Most Common?
U2 and U3. U2 is the most commonly used grade – best cost-performance ratio. U3 is harder to manufacture at 12.5mm and has much lower sales volume.
4. Can It Be Hot-Dip Galvanized?
Technically yes, but not recommended. For small diameter chains, hot-dip galvanizing can affect material strength and carries a risk of hydrogen embrittlement. Black paint or self color finish are the usual choices.
