1. What is a Kenter shackle?
It's the detachable link that connects two sections of anchor chain, or chain to anchor. Made of two halves, a crossbar, and a tapered pin, it can be installed or removed on-site without burning tools.
2. How do I choose the right one?
Match the shackle to your chain's diameter, grade, and material (e.g., U2, U3, R4). Diameter should be the same as your chain link (d). Check for required class society certification (ABS, DNV, LR, CCS, etc.).
3. Does it connect directly to standard chain?
Yes. Kenter shackle diameter matches standard chain link (d), so no enlarged link (EL) is needed. This keeps the connection smooth and strength-matched.
4. What are the key installation rules?
Don't skip the lead seal – it keeps the tapered pin from backing out. Also ensure half-rings are fully aligned and avoid forcing parts cold.
5. How often should it be inspected?
Check the lead seal every 6 months. Perform full flaw inspection every 2 years. Replace when wear exceeds 8% of original size.
